Mass reported by your slicer.
Example only; a power meter gives better accuracy.
Depreciation and upkeep; excludes labor.
Expected overhead, not a guaranteed loss on this print.

30% markup is not the same as 30% profit margin.

How does it work?

Base cost = filament + electricity + machine-hour rate × hours + additional costs. We then divide by (1 − failure rate) to account for expected failed-print overhead.

Marked-up price = adjusted cost × (1 + markup / 100). This assumes failed prints cost roughly as much as successful ones; real failures may happen earlier and cost less.

Important: Use your actual electricity tariff and ideally measure printer power. This is not a tax calculation or a binding quote.

Frequently asked questions

Does the estimate include failed prints?

Yes. The failure percentage increases the expected cost of obtaining one successful print.

Is 30% markup the same as 30% profit margin?

No. Markup is calculated on cost; margin is calculated on selling price.

Practical, non-promotional buying considerations. Future partner recommendations will be clearly disclosed.

PLA / PETG filament

Check filament diameter, polymer type, diameter tolerance and net spool weight. Compare the cost per usable kilogram.

Plug-in energy meter

Measure energy across a complete print instead of assuming the heater runs at maximum power all the time.

Spool scale

Subtract the empty spool weight to estimate how much filament remains.

Frequently asked questions

Should I enter the printer’s maximum rated wattage?

Prefer the measured average draw. The nameplate rating is not the same as typical power during a print.

Does this include my labor?

Only when you enter it under additional costs. The marked-up selling price is not net profit and does not automatically include taxes.
